Obi-Wan Kenobi - Outer Robe The robe is fairly easy to make, provided you have some basic sewing experience (or have access to someone who does). Begin by buying McCall's pattern #9496. The actual pattern creates a hooded cloak, and is apparently some sort of "phantom" costume. You'll only had to modify the pattern slightly to create an accurate Jedi robe. Simplicity #8944 works well, too. The robe was originally constructed from medium brown wool blankets (gabardine works well, too). You may be able to find blankets at a thrift store, or just go to the fabric store and buy your material new. You'll probably need about 6 yards. The pattern has the exact amounts needed on the back, and actually over estimates a bit. Wool tends to cost alot more than gabradine. There are basically 6 pieces to cut out: front left, front right, back left, back right, hood left, and hood right. The pattern calls for sewing up the front but you can simply leave it open and hem the edges. It is a very simple pattern to follow, and if you are new to sewing, this would be a good way to get started. When constructing the hood, be sure to make it large enough so it can envelop your entire face. When sewing the sleeves on the cloak, be sure to line the inside so the tunic sleeves won't bunch up inside the cloak sleeves.
