Costume Parts

Head

I made my Tusken head out of paper mache. First I built a form out of cardboard strips to support the paper mache and leather snout. I put several layers of paper strips soaked in wallpaper paste. Once the structure was strong enough and dry I mounted the machined metal parts I had a friend make for me from my CAD drawings. Once all that was dry the leather was epoxied to the face and mouth areas. To finish it off I ripped cloth strips and glued them on with wall paper paste.

Breather/ Moisture Trap

I really am not sure what this is but I made mine using solid aluminum rod some brass compression fittings, fender washers, PVC pipe and leather.

Robe

The robe is a simple tunic style with a high collar that fastens with velcro. I used some really cheap muslin that I found at WalMart. To be more accurate a heavier fabric and more complicated robe pattern would be needed. This one is light and comfortable to wear and packs down really small.

NEW Improved More Accurate Robe in progress!

This is the pattern I used to make my new robe. It is based on the robe the 12" Tusken Raider figure wears. After looking at many pictures I am pretty sure that this is the correct pattern. I also used a Ralph Lauren blanket which has the proper weave. There are also Manor Blankets available from Brylane Home that seem to have the correct weave but I have not seen one in person yet.

The measurements are based on the figure which is assumed to be 1:6 scale if you are 6' tall.

Bandoliers

These are British 5 pocket leather Enfield bandoliers. They are getting harder to come by and more expensive. These are the ones used in the Star Wars.

These Swedish bandoliers were used in The Phantom Menace and are a bit easier to find.

Boots

As with most of the costume I made these as cheaply as possible. I used a pair of canvas shoes and sewed a tube of canvas cloth to them.
