Princess Leia - ANH Dress Once you've finished the metal pieces and have the belt ready, you can assemble it. Apply contact cement to the area of the belt where the metal piece attaches and the back of the metal piece itself. Allow it to dry for 15 minutes and then carefully put the metal piece in place. Be careful as it's difficult to move the surfaces after they've bonded. Repeat this for each piece until all the pieces are glued in place. Next, put the round buttons in place. Again, use the contact cement to do this by brushing the bottom of the button and the surface of the metal that the button will attach to with the glue. Remember that the eye loop should go through the hole in the metal and the hole in the leather. It may or may not poke through the belt leather, depending on the thickness of the leather. Allow 15 minutes to dry and then bond the two pieces together. Repeat this for all 7 metal pieces. If you get extra cement on the metal piece, a little paint thinner will clean it up easily. The last step is to punch 2 rows of 2 holes about an inch apart on each end of the belt and set the snaps. This means you will have punched 8 holes in total - 4 on each end of the the belt. This design is true to the actual belt - it was only adjustable by about 1". It had two sets of snaps for adjustments. You could optionally make yours more adjustable if you want, but if you want to stay true to the filmed belt, then only install 4 sets of snaps.
