You may want to consider replacing the screws that hold the blinders to the top of the helmet. The real screws are flat, recessed into the helmet and covered with a gray circle which is possibly just a sticker or a small piece of painted plastic.

Also, notice how the emblem on the left side of the blinder is grey instead of black like the Don Post version.

Thanks to this cut scene from Return of the Jedi, we now know what the Scouts wore underneath their helmets. US Calvary sells a black Polypropylene Balaclava (item #WA6793) that works great. Be careful not to get one made from wool, as it will probably be too hot.
